WUDN Partners with One Tree Planted

WUDN is Proud to Announce our Partnership with OneTreePlanted - Let's Plant Some Trees!
Wherever you see this graphic, WUDN will contribute $1 for One Tree Planted to plant a tree. (Image Background: A tree planted after the 2018 fires in Central California).
WUDN has been involved with tree planting programs in the past, and we’ve gotten dirty planting a few ourselves, but our partnership with One Tree Planted doubles down on our commitment to leave this planet a better place than we found it.

Beginning with our portfolio of Wooden Sunglasses; we have joined their one-to-one program in which every product we sell, plants one tree.
WUDN will donate $1 for each pair of sunglasses sold. One dollar is enough to plant an entire tree.

The recent fires in Australia really brought it home for me. Climate change is real, and substantially caused by humans. Fine... So the team at WUDN decided to do something about it.

Planting trees is a simple and effective way to make a real impact. Trees clean the air we breathe and the water we drink. They help stabilize our climate, provide habitat for biodiversity, and create sustainable jobs. That's a big part of why we founded WUDN.

The single most important thing we can do for the health of our planet is getting just one more tree in the ground. And we can't do it ourselves. To make a meaningful impact, it needs to be the right kind of tree, planted in the right place. Hence a partnership with the experts at One Tree Planted. We donate a few dollars, and they plant a few trees. It really is that simple. You can make a real impact today.

WUDN always sources our wood products from Certified Sustainable sources, but that's not enough. It's important to support reforestation efforts domestically and internationally. As an Idaho company with deep roots in the Pacific Northwest, we've asked One Tree Planted to focus our tree planting efforts right here in N. America.

Why Trees?

Because trees are superstars of our climate. Every day, a 40 foot tree absorbs 50 gallons of dissolved nutrients from the soil, pumps this mixture to it's topmost leaves, converts it into 10 pounds of carbohydrates and releases about 60 cubic feet of pure oxygen into the air. One tree does this, every single day. Here are 6 powerful reasons for "Why Trees?"

1. AIR

Trees are like the vacuums of our planet. Through their leaves and bark, they absorb harmful pollutants and release clean oxygen for us to breathe. In urban environments, trees absorb pollutant gases like nitrogen oxides, ozone, and carbon monoxide, and sweep up particles like dust and smoke. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide caused by deforestation and fossil fuel combustion trap heat in the atmosphere. Healthy, strong trees act as carbon sinks; absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide and reducing the effects of climate change.

2. WATER

Trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. Their intricate root systems act like filters; removing pollutants and slowing down the water’s absorption into the ground. This process prevents harmful waterside erosion and reduces the risk of over-saturation and flooding. According to the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations, a mature evergreen tree can intercept more than 15,000 litres of water every year.

3. BIODIVERSITY

A single tree can be home to hundreds of species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants. Depending on the kind of food and shelter they need, different forest animals require different types of habitat. Without trees, forest creatures would have nowhere to call home.
- Young, Open Forests: These forests occur as a result of fires or logging. Shrubs, grasses, and young trees attract animals like black bears, the American goldfinch, and bluebirds in North America.
- Middle-Aged Forests: In middle-aged forests, taller trees begin to outgrow weaker trees and vegetation. An open canopy allows for the growth of ground vegetation prefered by animals like salamander, elk, and tree frogs.
- Older Forests: With large trees, a complex canopy, and a highly developed understory of vegetation, old forests provide habitat for an array of animals, including bats, squirrels, and a variety of birds.

4. SOCIAL IMPACT

From arborists, to loggers, to researchers, the job opportunities provided by the forestry industry are endless. We don’t just rely on trees for work; sustainable tree farming provides timber to build homes and shelter, and wood to burn for cooking and heating. Food-producing trees provide fruit, nuts, berries, and leaves for consumption by both humans and animals, and guarantee health and nutrition.

5. HEALTH

Did you know that hospital patients with rooms overlooking trees recover faster than those without the same view? It’s impossible to ignore that feeling of elation you feel walking through a calm, quiet forest. Trees help reduce stress, anxiety, and allow us to reconnect with nature. In addition, shade provided by tree coverage helps protect our skin from the ever-increasing harshness of the sun.

6. CLIMATE

Trees help cool the planet by sucking in and storing harmful greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, into their trunks, branches, and leaves, and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can reduce overall temperature by up to eight degrees Celsius. With more than 50% of the world’s population living in cities—a number expected to increase to 66% by the year 2050—pollution and overheating are becoming a real threat. Fortunately, a mature tree can absorb an average of 48 lbs of carbon dioxide per year, making cities a healthier, safer place to live.

Celebrate Reforestation

To celebrate the partnership, WUDN has created a limited edition "REFORESTATION" phone case, manufactured in the US from sustainably sourced Eastern Aromatic Cedar wood. Buy a pair of unique and stylish wooden sunglasses, or the limited edition Reforestation phone case, and WUDN (with help from One Tree Planted) will plant a tree on your behalf. It's that easy.

But that's not all. Every pair of WUDN Sunglasses or REFORESTATION Phone Case will include a real wood Reforestation sticker. Stick it on a water bottle, toolbox, hat, truck bumper, doesn't matter. The reforestation sticker will tell the world you planted a tree. And you'll look cool doing it.
reforestation sticker comes with every pair of WUDN Sunglasses or Reforestation Phone Case

Reforestation Sticker made from real sustainably sourced wood. (PS. this one is just an example, your sticker might be a different size, shape or wood species. Each one will be unique in wood tone and grain. Truly a one of a kind).

“We are excited to plant trees on behalf of WUDN and their customers” Said Matt Hill, Founder of One Tree Planted. “WUDN's commitment will help fund micro-reforestation projects that would not otherwise be able to get off the ground” Said Hill.

About One Tree Planted

One Tree Planted was founded in by Matt Hill in the beginning of 2014. The organization prides itself on the 80/20 model, in which 80% of our revenue goes directly to tree planting, and 20% goes towards developing and growing our various programs. One Tree Planted works with local reforestation partners to plant proper tree species and ensure high survival rates in each region. Founded as a Vermont based non-profit 501(c)3, the organization was started to reforest our planet and provide education, awareness and engagement on the importance of trees. One Tree Planted is currently working on reforestation campaigns in Africa, North America, Asia, and South America. One Tree Planted works with local reforestation partners to plant proper tree species and ensure high survival rates in each region. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in one quarter of all medicines.
